Lockoffs

Chicco NextFit iX Zip rear facing lockoff

Chicco NextFit iX Zip rear facing lockoff

The lockoffs on the previous version of the NextFit were a bit quirky compared to the lockoff we know and love from the KeyFit and Fit2 rear facing only car seats.  They opened to allow the seat belt to laissez passer through, then they had to be clamped back into identify on the side of the car seat away from the seat chugalug buckle.  While we didn't find this terribly difficult to utilise, a lot of caregivers did.  And Chicco listened to their concerns!

Chicco NextFit iX Zip forward facing lockoff

Chicco NextFit iX Zero forrad facing lockoff

These new lockoffs work like the ones on the KeyFit and Fit2 — the vehicle seat belt slides through on the side opposite of the vehicle belt buckle.  That's all there is to it.  Add a bit of force per unit area to the automobile seat while threading the belt, and a secure install is fairly painless to attain!  We did find that sometimes the rear facing lockoff got snagged on an border of the belt path opening but we were able to push the seat belt past the snag and install the seat.

Breast Clip

The previous version of the breast clip had two settings — a smaller ane for smaller children, and a larger one for larger children.  This chest prune offered a variable fit for growing children, simply information technology presented some challenges in figuring out when to utilize each mode.  It was as well easier than we'd similar for the tiniest passengers to open on their own.

Now, the seat sports an IMMI breast prune with 1 setting.  This breast prune is a time-honored piece of equipment that's establish on a great number of car seats for ane reason — it's very piece of cake to use!  It's besides more difficult for Littles to open. We're happy to encounter this chest clip make an advent on the new NextFit nine Zip.

Additional Harness Positions

The NextFit 9 Zip adds an additional three headrest positions to the no-rethread harness.  The older version of the seat had half dozen headrest positions.  While half dozen sounds like a reasonable number, in that location was roughly an inch of space betwixt them.  This space made it awkward to get children properly harnessed when they had grown simply were between harness positions.

With 9 headrest positions, the NextFit ix Zip offers more than flexibility in fit to kid.  The smaller space between positions means that the harness can always fit the child properly — harness at or below the shoulders for rear facing, harness at or higher up the shoulders for forward facing.

Custom Harness Fit on Every Ride

You'll see united states of america talking almost this a lot in the coming months — the idea that every ride for every child starts with a custom fit on the harness. As children grow, leaving the harness ready to i height tin pb to a young child feeling compressed by a harness that's suddenly likewise small. The NextFit iX Nothing makes adjusting the harness for every ride a sure-fire!

That'due south due to what Chicco calls the Everyday Use feature. They've used the SuperCinch force reduction technology in the harness, which makes the harness as buttery smooth as the KeyFit harness.

Lower Anchor Storage

Chicco NextFit ix Zero lower anchor storage

Like everything on the NextFit iX Nil, there's a tidy storage compartment for the lower anchor connectors.

These are on both sides of the seat; they open similar a drawer and the premium lower anchor connectors store neatly inside.

To movement the lower anchors between rear and frontwards facing modes, slide them along these compartments.

Top Tether Storage

Different nearly every other car seat around, the NextFit iX Zip has a clearly labelled, easy-to-use peak tether storage compartment.

Nigh other car seats have a handy place to clip the tether but Chicco offers an even more than elegant solution. This attending to detail brings a lot of value to the seat.

Installation: Rear Facing

Lower Anchors

Chicco NextFit 9 Zip pull 1st lower ballast

The NextFit iX Zip sports a unique lower ballast tightening mechanism called SuperCinch.  This organization makes for a fairly piece of cake lower anchor installation. This is the same machinery used on the previous model — it remains pretty awesome!

A Word About SuperCinch

NextFit iX Zip SuperCinch

NextFit iX Zippo SuperCinch

The SuperCinch lower ballast system is a bit different from the setup we typically see on other machine seats.  The Pull 1 side of the mechanism has a traditional adjuster but the Pull 2 side features the SuperCinch.  This thin strip of webbing attaches to the wider, more than typical function of the webbing, has a small orange button to release it, and, as the proper name suggests, cinches the car seat into place.  Unlike a more conventional lower anchor connector, the SuperCinch webbing will secure itself when pulled in almost any direction.

In rear facing mode, I found that unzipping the cover to access the belt path made for a fairly painless install.

Installing the NextFit iX Zip on the very deep vehicle seats of my 2022 VW GTI worked best when I did this:

  1. Unzip the comprehend all of the way to expose the belt path from the within of the seat.
  2. Connect the lower anchors on both sides of the seat.
  3. Tighten the lower anchor on the side labelled Pull 1st.
Hither's the trick: stand on the Pull 2nd side of the seat, and then attain down into the belt path on the Pull 1st side, catch the Pull 1st loop, and then pull it directly upward through the inside of the seat.
  4. Finally, cypher the cover support, then tighten the Pull second strap on the other side of the seat. This second strap tightens by pulling the strap in any direction.

Recline Angle Indicator

The NextFit iX Naught has a rear and frontwards facing angle indicator.  Nigh convertible and multimode machine seats but take a rear facing angle indicator merely Chicco offers caregivers an boosted way to confirm that their child's car seat is installed correctly with the forward facing indicator.  The bubble is clearly marked.

Vehicle Seat Chugalug

Chicco NextFit rear facing

Installing the NextFit 9 Zip with the updated lockoffs was likewise adequately painless.  Ready the NextFit iX Zip rear facing on the vehicle seat, then thread the vehicle seat belt through the rear facing chugalug path.  Buckle the seat chugalug, then remove slack from the lap portion of the vehicle seat belt.  With i hand, apply pressure level to the portion of the NextFit ix Zilch's seat pan where the kid's bottom would go to remove slack from the vehicle seat chugalug.  With the other hand, on the outside of the automobile seat's trounce on the side abroad from the buckle, pull the vehicle seat chugalug away from the buckle to remove all of the slack.  Finally, slide the vehicle seat belt through the lockoff and let go of the seat belt.  This should event in a snug installation.

Fit for Larger Children

Chicco NextFit iX Zip padding gap?

Chicco NextFit iX Goose egg padding gap?

When my kiddos rode in harnessed seats, one of our biggest challenges was the padding behind the child. When the child was tall enough to have the harness at the highest settings, some car seats had a padding gap behind the child's back.

Chicco NextFit iX Zip padding gap?

Chicco NextFit nine Zippo padding gap has disappeared!

Equally I was installing the NextFit iX Zip, I noticed a sizeable gap at the top range of the harness height and started to cringe. Investigating further, I reached behind the padding and discovered an extra flap of padding just waiting to be extended.

Once again, I've fulfilled my dream of being a hand model.

With the flap fully extended, the padding gap is eliminated. Similar the original NextFit, which also has this feature, kiddos of all sizes can fit comfortably in this seat!

Deep Sides

Chicco NextFit rear facing

Chicco NextFit rear facing

My biggest struggle with the NextFit iX Zip is the high sides, especially for larger rear facing kiddos. Though all car seats pass the same federal rubber standards, features that are exterior of the standard tin add to a seat's overall ease of use or overall safety. The loftier sides on this seat may add together a level of protection but they tin can also make loading and unloading a larger kid a chip of a claiming. They tin can likewise reduce the airflow to the child, peculiarly when the child is rear facing.

Many families use this seat for many years without issues regarding the sides merely we've seen enough families who have struggled with the shape of the seat that it seems pertinent to mention information technology hither.

Fit to Child

Rear Facing

Newborn Doll — with padding

Chicco NextFit iX newborn fit

Chicco NextFit iX newborn fit

Our doll is a Huggable Images newborn.  She weighs vii pounds and is 19 inches alpine.  With the padding in, the NextFit nine Zippo fit the doll very well.

Her face is pointing downwards just a flake.  This isn't terribly surprising considering she has a very rounded caput and the headrest is in front of the seat'south shell.  Families who are planning to use the NextFit with a newborn may want to keep this potential for a flake of head slump in mind.

Newborn Doll — without padding

Chicco NextFit nine newborn doll without padding

Without the padding, the harness fit on our doll isn't virtually as fabled equally the fit with the padding in. On the lowest setting, the harness is well in a higher place our doll's shoulders.  So we'd exist hard pressed to advise this seat for newborns without the padding in use.

eighteen Months Old

This immature model is xviii months old.  He weighs 28 pounds, and is 29 inches tall.  He'due south got plenty of room to grow in the NextFit nine Zip and the harness fit him well.

iii Years Old (but almost 4!)

Chicco NextFit iX Zip 3 years old rear facing

Chicco NextFit nine Zip 3 years onetime rear facing

This model is 3 years old, just weeks away from his 4th birthday.  He weighs 38 pounds and is 39 inches tall.  Unremarkably, he rides rear facing in a Diono Radian, which has some pretty low sides. We were curious well-nigh how he'd feel when riding in a seat with significantly deeper sides than his regular seat, only he had no bug!  Loading a bigger rear facing kiddo like this lilliputian guy can exist a scrap of a challenge cheers to the deep sides.

The generous padding on the harness straps and crotch buckle added comfort for all his parts and reduced whatever chafing at the neck. He felt this seat was comfy and constitute means to position his legs with no trouble.

Installation

Forward Facing

Vehicle Seat Chugalug

Installing the NextFit iX Zippo forward facing was every bit painless every bit installing information technology rear facing.  Set the NextFit ix Cipher frontwards facing on the vehicle seat, then thread the vehicle seat belt through the forward facing chugalug path.  The cover unsnaps to provide access to the chugalug path.

Buckle the seat belt, and so remove slack from the lap portion of the vehicle seat belt. With one hand, use pressure to the portion of the NextFit 9 Cipher'south seat pan where the kid's bottom would go to remove slack from the vehicle seat chugalug.  With the other hand, on the outside of the car seat's shell on the side away from the buckle, pull the vehicle seat belt away from the buckle to remove all of the slack.  Finally, slide the vehicle seat chugalug through the lockoff and let go of the seat chugalug. This should consequence in a snug installation.

Lower Anchors

The lower anchors slide between the rear facing and forward facing positions in a very convenient way — they slide on the outside of the seat'southward shell!

Chicco NextFit iX Zip moving lower anchors side 2

Chicco NextFit ix Nothing moving lower anchors side two

The only challenging part of this motion was making certain I had enough slack in the webbing to reach both sides of the seat — if the Pull 1st side of the webbing wasn't all the way extended, the webbing was a piffling too short to slide between positions.

Chicco NextFit iX Zip forward facing, lower anchors

Chicco NextFit iX Cypher forwards facing, lower anchors

One time I moved the lower anchors to the forward facing position, I was able to install the NextFit ix Zip with almost no struggle and no sweat on a 90 degree day.  I am not making this up!

The just consequence I found was likely unique to my motorcar, which has exposed lower anchors with a plastic piece effectually them. This configuration makes access to the anchors quite like shooting fish in a barrel but when it came to installing the NextFit nine Zip, information technology meant the lower anchor connectors sat straight upwards and the push buttons on the lower anchor connectors got sort of trapped by the webbing.  I had to loosen the Pull 1st side, then achieve effectually the webbing to access and release the button.

Fit to Child

Forward Facing

iii Years Quondam

Chicco NextFit iX Zip 3 years old forward facing

Chicco NextFit iX Nil 3 years onetime forrard facing

This model is almost four years old.  He weighs 38 pounds and is 37 inches alpine.  Normally, he rides rear facing so trying out the NextFit iX Zip in forwards facing mode introduced him and his parents to the world of backseat driving.  The seat fit him well and he'south got plenty of room to grow.

vi Years Sometime

Chicco NextFit nine 6 years erstwhile

This model is 6 years old.  He weighs 44 pounds and is 44 inches alpine.  He says it'southward comfortable and he likes the pads on the straps.  He finds the seat a scrap hard to climb into. The harness is So smooth.

Of import Information: Where to Discover

Chicco NextFit nine Aught FAA label

FAA Approving: the NextFit nine Null is approved for use on aircraft.  The label is found on the outside of the seat'south shell, behind where the child's left shoulder would exist.  At 26.ii pounds, the NextFit 9 Naught is a bit heavy for plane travel but it is canonical.
